SATOMI TERAO
Born in Kanagawa,Japan
painter
Hello, I am Satomi Terao.
My art pieces embodies a dream that I experienced as a child.
In that dream is a park. From above, one can see a concentric circle from the sky.
In my pieces, I have adopted this symbol of the park repetitively as my theme for my work.
I have notice there are patterns in myths, fables and tradition within different region, folk, culture, and age.
The symbol of concentric circles have been applied in mandala and holy geometry as well as in different religions and mythologies.
Psychologist Carl Gustav Jung had said that a dreams function does not hold a specific intent or desire.
The structure of a mind of all humans share composes a “legacy for ancient humans.”
Across different ages and cultures, within the humankind we are unified.
Following Jung’s thesis, I present a hypothesis that the park in my dream may link with the Theory of Forms by Platon, Tibetan Buddhism, Zen Buddhism, and with other religions and humankind.
Therefore, my works context is an investigation.
I believe that observing my unconscious mind may be the key in solving the ambiguity in the nature of humankind.
